Literature Text

You taught me to be tough,
You showed me to be nice,
You taught me to take chances,
You showed me to think twice,
Gave me the cross around my neck,
Showed me how to hold a gun,
But father, tell me,
Am I still your son?

I turned the other cheek,
You hit me once again,
I curse and hit you back
Just like 'real men'.
Then you say you're sorry,
The fight is never won,
But father, oh father,
Am I still your son?

You never understood
The songs I listen to,
The things I read and write,
The ways I'm not like you,
The ways I dress and talk,
The ways that I have fun,
Bur father, oh dear father,
Am I still your son?

And when there's nowhere left to hide
And nowhere left to run,
When mom and sis stop crying
And all the anger's gone,
When our own tears have dried
And all is said and done,
Oh father, my dear father,
Am I still your son?

Would you still love me
If I hadn't won?
Oh, do you hate me
For the wrong that I have done?
Oh, if I call you father,
Would you still call me your son?
This poem is not fully about myself and my relationship with my dad, it is dedicated to everyone who has problems with their family members, mothers, daughters, fathers, aunts, grandparents, sisters, etc.

This one's to you, you know who you are, love and peace y'all!

The last stanza is probably the best, but the whole poem is really deep. I especially like the 'cross - gun' antithesis, although I wouldn't have used the American movie scenario, but that's just me - every artist with his own vision.
